The remake of Silent Night Deadly Night! "A small-town sheriff and deputy on the hunt for a murderous Santa Claus terrorizing their community on Christmas Eve. But with the streets full of Santas for the annual Christmas parade, the killer is hiding in plain sight. He's made his list, checked it twice, and the naughty are going to pay with their lives."

It's getting a limited theatrical release here, so I'm bowing out until this premiers on cable sometime in the summer next year.

As GL said it was a limited release over the weekend ahead of it's BD/DVD debut today (Tuesday). Thanks to a new online shop Phantom introduced me to - Import CD - my copy shipped last week,so I'm expecting it in the next few days. Can't wait.

So, why pick a movie that's not even released yet?

Fair point, as long as it's out. I just personally would've chosen something that's been widely available to all for a while, not one that's released during the month in question. I feel it's about the same as choosing something released on December 16 as the December Movie of the Month, we're going to spend more time waiting for the DVD/Blu-Ray to arrive than we are going to spend discussing the film itself. Just the way my mind works, I guess. Not knocking your choice at all, TWD, just pointing out how I think about something like this.

Is this a remake of Silent Night, Deadly Night? If so I have never even seen the original. Anyway we'll get it in as soon as possible.

Wow! Maybe I should have made the original MotM. From what I've heard, it's a loose remake with basically the Santa as Killer plot intact but everything else overhauled. My fingers are extra crossed it turns up today!

No way, this was a cool choice. I'm looking forward to checking it out. I, for one, am glad you didn't choose the original. It was an awful movie and I have no desire to discuss it at length. THis one, if nothing else, has a promising cast and is a new slasher film. THat means I will absolutely see it.

That bad? Matt let me know if this is worth buying.....I'll just order it so I might be able to watch it this month.

I think the original is pretty bad personally. I guess some folks might disagree depending on whether you find the extreme cheese to be camp and funny or just lame. I kind of fell on the lame side of that fence. It is impossible to take any of it seriously, though, with the possible exception of a decent scene where Linea Quigly is impaled on a set of deer antlers that is rather well done.

Ok My verdict is in - a 3. Some very good gory deaths and a high body count, and not much else unfortunately. One of the best aspects of the original is that it (for me anyway) invokes genuine sympathy for Billy. After every thing he sees, it's no real surprise when he snaps. None of that to be found here. Santa just wanders the town dispatching people he deems naughty. It actually reminded me of the dire Uncle Sam in this respect although it's better than that. Several nods to the original are included (and even one for Black Christmas) but the key Granpa awakes to warn his grandson scene falls flat, because a/ It's not a kid but a teen, and b/ Granpa is just not as scary as the original old geezer (especially when your 10). It just seemed token. Now that said, I know this will find it's way into my regular December rotation - hell I'll probably watch it again this year - and it's much better than the other remake of a seasonal slasher, but it felt like it couldn't have been much better.
