Morbid Angel - Radikult. I'd heard that the new Morbid Angel record sucked, but I had to hear for myself to be sure. Checked this one out on Youtube and all I can say is beware. I am by no means a death metal purist. The fact that it has industrial overtones is not a problem for me in and of itself. In fact, in my old age I probably enjoy industrial more than I enjoy straight ahead death metal (Ministry remains one of my all time favorite bands). This wasn't just different, though. It was awful. David Vincent's vocals are all wrong. Even on the more straight ahead death metal tracks he sounds like a pussy. Azagthoth, who is one of the grreatest guitarists in all of metal, gives no indication of that anywhere on the new record. Bottom line, the touring guitarist wrote the best track on this record (Blades for Baal). It is 100 times better than anything else on this record, and it would still be the worst thing on any other Morbid Angel release. This just sucks my balls

Aaah Dio...
I've just finished a Deep Purple double of Stormbringer and Burn. Now trying to decide whether I like Trivium or not.

I vote not. I've moved on to Maiden. I think Brave New world is close to their best. It's so mature, and you can hear the refreshment from Bruce and Adrian's time away. This carries through to Dance of Death as well, Brave New World,Out of the Silent Planet,No More Lies and Paschendale are right up in the classics.

The music is ok but the vocals (switching from multi-tracked emo melodic voice to growling/shrieking) kind of spoil it all. Therefore I also say an emphatic NO to Trivium.
Got to agree with you on Brave New World. I abandoned Iron Maiden for the best part of 20 years after the horrible No Prayer For the Dying album. I was very surprised when someone played me BNW, it's like the intervening years never even happened. Dance of Death is ok but I prefer A Matter of Life and Death, The Reincarnation of Benjamin Breeg is just awesome.

Well, sorry about Trivium, the vocals annoy me to no end as well but if I sorted my music collection by which vocalists I liked, I'd only have four or five bands in the collection (Halford, Dio, Dickinson and Diamond) so I rather like the sonic noise generated and consider a good vocalist a bonus. It makes them better, but it's not the sole criteria needed for a great band.
And I've always preferred BNW as well, in fact it's still my favorite of the recent vintage because it's not as bloated as their other albums are, and 'Wicker Man' is still one of their best singles.
