Boogie Down Productions was originally composed of KRS-One, D Nice, and DJ Scott La Rock. The latter was murdered on August 27, 1987, after the release of BDP's debut album Criminal Minded. The name of the group, "Boogie Down", derives from the alternative name for The Bronx section of New York City.
While Criminal Minded was basically about sex and crime, BDP radically changed after Scott's death, becoming the most popular conscious rap group besides Public Enemy. Boogie Down Productions pioneered the fusion of Raggamuffin and hip hop music.
The membership of BDP changed continuously throughout its existence, the only constant being KRS-One. BDP members and collaborators included Mad Lion, Channel Live, Run, Keith Murray, McBoo, Ms. Melodie, Scottie Morris, Willie D., Robocop, Harmony, DJ Red Alert, DJ Jazzy Jay Kramer, D-Square, Rebekah, and Sidney Mills. BDP as group essentially ended because KRS-One began recording and performing under his own name, rather than the group name.

KRS One is one of the greatest and most underappreciated artists in all of hip hop. It is a shame that Death Row and Bad Boy wound up taking over the hip hop workd only about 3 years after this was the shit. Imagine if KRS One and Public Enemy were able to steer the course that rap music took instead of what ended up happening. THat would have been awesome. And we wouldn't have all of these douchebags out there who actually think that Biggie and Tupac had important messages in their lyrics

Exactly man! If only right. I love KRS-1 and BDP and Public Enemy. It's a real shame that they didn't get to steer it, because the music has lost all its meaning practically. Luckily we still have them and some underground artists to keep the concious hip hop going.

Tupac actually did have a lot of great songs IMO, although 90% of what came from Bad Boy and Death Row was total crap.

Entirely overated. Dre and Snoop wre both better than Tupac. And none of them wre even close to KRS One or Chuck D

Yeah. That's cause he doesn't have a decent producer anymore. He never had much to say, but Dre gave him some of the best beats ever to rap over. And his voice is still awesome. He might have the best deliverty of any rapper. It is jut unfortunate that he doesn't have more to say with it

You guys must have not listened to much Pac, he's lyrically miles ahead of Dre, Snoop, or just about anyone else from that scene.
Yeah, Snoop is horrible these days, he's all in movies and commercials and stuff.

I think all three are overated. I really don't think any of them were lyrically ahead of each other either. I just like Snoops delivery alot how HNT mentioned above. I can't believe how crappy hip hop has gotten though. I guess music in general has gotten pretty crappy in recent years. There are few good bands/musicians/singers out there today.
