"The Grateful Dead was an American psychedelia-influenced rock band formed in 1965 in San Francisco. The band was known for its unique and eclectic songwriting style—which fused elements of rock, folk music, bluegrass, blues, country, jazz, psychedelia, and gospel—and for live performances of long modal jams.
The Grateful Dead's fans, some of whom followed the band from concert to concert for years, were known as Deadheads and were renowned for their dedication to the band's music. Many followers referred to the band simply as The Dead.
The Grateful Dead became the de facto resident band of Ken Kesey's Merry Pranksters, with the early sound heavily influenced by LSD-soaked Acid Tests, as well as R&B. Their musical influences varied widely with input from the psychedelic music of the era, combined with blues, jazz, rock and roll, and bluegrass. These various influences were distilled into a diverse and psychedelic whole that made the Grateful Dead "the pioneering Godfathers of the jam band world.""

The Grateful Dead are great. I can't imagine being in CA, especially Haight-Ashbury/San Fran back in the 60's.
Jerry Garcia was a basehead for a long time though, lol.

Yea definitely! I wish I lived back in the 60s/70s. I have been around the San Fran area tons of times and its really cool. I haven't been there for a few years though. I need to go back sometime. I love Northeren CA and Grateful Dead. Listening to Touch Of Grey right now.

Great song. I like "Fire on the Mountain" the best maybe, I dunno for sure. Their best stuff is just live jams at shows.

Toads - being fairly antediluvian creatures - love the dead.

Reminds me of an old joke:
What did one Dead-head say to the other as they sobered up?
"This band sucks....."
I know, I know, I am treading on thin ice here. I cannot deny the impact the Dead has had on the music landscape. God bless 'em.
I just remember I had to 'roust' the dead-heads who followed them from concert to concert.
Pain in the asses they were....!

They eked out a living selling trinkets and shit like that at concerts. Sorta a 'commune' type environment. And drugs, lets not forget drugs......!!!!! LOL!

Concerts were alot cheaper back then too Conan, and you can't forget that the Grateful Dead hold the record for giving the most free concerts ever.
Some of my favorite songs are Sugar Magnolia, Touch Of Grey, The Golden Road, Truck'n, and Fire On The Mountain.

Yeah I don't necessarily think they were rich. They were living out of cars and stuff and back then concerts weren't like $100 for a ticket and $5 for a bottle of water.

Yea, my mom said that most of the concerts she went to were like $5. She saw the Grateful Dead, Allman Brothers, Lynyrd Synyrd, ZZ Top and tons of others.

I hate The Grateful Dead. And if I never hear another one of their songs, it'll be too soon.
