My buddy Mike and I have been thinking of all the songs from the 80's and it evolved into underrated bands. So I thought it would be fun here if we listed our favorite underrated bands from whatever time period. You are not limited to one, if you think of others later post em. My first entry is Huey Lewis and the News, these guys were a great solid band. Pure and simple rock and roll. They had a great sense of humor as well. I highly suggest looking them up on Youtube.

Gotta go with the only two 'Hair' bands I can stand: Dokken and Whitesnake. Some of the first groups I ever listened to and were responsible for keeping me in the rock/metal camp until the discovery of Megadeth, Metallica, Slayer, Anthrax, et al helped me to usher in the faster shite. Dream Warriors is still pretty catchy, It's Not Love is pretty tolerable, Just Got Lucky gets better with repeated listens since you hardly ever hear it and Breaking the Chains is just cheesy fun. Whitesnake also has a few gems, Still of the Night, Slide It In, Here I Go Again, Slow an Easy and one more, I can't think of the name now, but if my future girlfriend included musical tastes like them, I wouldn't feel completely guilty throwing one of her CDs in the car on road trips.

For the Aussies here I'm gonna say Midnight Oil. They were actually pretty interesting at the time, although I still don't know how I can sleep when my bed is buning so I wish that freaky bald fucker would quit asking me and expectig a response

Unfortunately the lead singer Peter Garrett is now a Cabinet Minister in the Labor Government (he has the environment portfolio, surprise, surprise) - which tends to bugger up the gig schedule a bit I guess. In the poppy stakes anyone have a soft spot for the Romantics - That's What I Like About You?

That's only the one song you hear from them, hardly think that's enough to make them underrated. However, it is catchy the show that borrows the name is guilty pleasure fun, so I don't think too harshly when I hear that.

GG Allin. Hardly underated, because he probably is the worst musician I've ever heard, but for pure shock and offense it doesn't get an sillier or more entertaining

Keep it going, I'm gonna go with one of my favorite thrash bands ever: Testament. The best band to come from the second wave of the 80s Thrash Scene, with three monsters right out of the gate (The Legacy, The New Order and Practice What You Preach) and there's still a lot of goodness to come from their later material. Low is guilty pleasure fun, Demonic is really a Death Metal album that is a lot better than expected, and The Gathering blew me away upon first listen. Faster, heavier and meaner than I ever expected, and one that still finds itself on repeated listens to this day. However, they've never been considered one of the top bands of the genre because they came out too late, shunted aside while Metallica, Megadeth, Anthrax and Slayer got the top honors. I've always called the top band Metallica, Anthrax, Slayer and Testament, as I enjoy them over the wholly overrated Megadeth and see the evolution they underwent as proof positive of that.
