I've become addicted to this classic sitcom for several weeks now, especially since I've been watching the repeats on TV Land. This is exactly the kind of show that appeals to me, as double entendres, slapstick and non-sequiter moments really make me laugh. It's goofy, to be sure, but I think it's still one of the funniest shows around. Anyone else a fan?

The show was fantastic until Suzanne Somers left. None of her replacemnts were as good as she was, so the show suffered big time. Other than that, the major question becomes do you prefer the Ropers or Mr. Furley? HArd to be sure on that one, but I think I gotta go with Furley cause I love Don Knotts

I always had a thing for Priscilla Barnes myself, so I think the later years are pretty good. Yes, the situations got increasingly hard to believe, but I love the way it's all settled at the end, where one remark clears up the whole situation. I do love Furley more, he gets more laughs than the one-note-joke Ropers. They get old pretty fast, but every now and then, they do score (in more ways than one ) but I have loved Knotts big time.

Dude, this show was great. It had Suzanne Somers, John Ritter, and Don Knotts all on one show. That is an all star cast if ever there was one

Hey, if you want good Tv, then go watch The Andy Griffith Show.

I hate that show. I grew up on it, and my folks kept insisting we watch it for dinner. That's the show I credit for making me go eat in the bedroom instead of at the dinner table. I can't stand 50s ideals, and the show is just not funny at all. I can't stand it.

I know. lol. I was just messin with you. I hate the 50's also...except when it comes to some of the horror films. lol.
Seriously though. If you want a great show, then watch Sanford and Son. Redd Foxx fucking rules.

That's ok, but it gets old after a while. Nothing really happens on there. It's the same thing everytime. Junior tries to find a way to make some money, Red screws it up and tries to ix it, which causes the whole thing to come crashing down harder. And his catchphrase can get annoying with time. Fine if you want to spend an episode or two at a time, but not worth sitting through a marathon of them.

Sanford and Son is great. I like Andy Griffith alright too. Certainly not a favorite of mine, bu I think Don Knotts is great, so Andy Griffith can be worth watching just for Barney Fife and the these song, which is a classic. So far, you guys have mentioned three classic shows in this thread and debated which ones are good and which ones aren't. Personally, I like them all. None of them are favorites, but they all have quite a bit to recommend them.
Now All in the Family is the greatest show ever IMHO

All In The Family can be funny, but I still prefer Sanford and Son.

I got into All in the Family before Sanford and Son when it was still a sitcom instead of a barrier-breaker-downer and lost a lot of laughs. The early years are great, but I don't like the later seasons all that much.

The writing was actually pretty good. I remember watching an episode where Chrissie hit her head and Janet and Jack thought Chrissie was going to die. I was surprised at how far they made the joke go. Also, the physical comedy is good from the entire cast.
But on the whole, I just don't think it's a very funny show. Well, it doesn't make me laugh. When it's on and there's nothing else to watch, I check it out. Because John Ritter was really hot back then.
