Finally, summer's almost over and the new seasons/series premiere.
The Middle The Goldbergs Modern Family Black-ish-Upset over the growing gap between his own upbringing and his children's lifestyle, a black advertising executive and his wife try to force more of their own culture upon the family. I'm not entirely sure where they're going with this since this again follows the seemingly newfound stance of using a feature-length movie plot as a sitcom story that has no real bearing on lasting for several seasons. As it stands, though, that makes a pretty funny movie with this potentially generating some laughs with the difference between what it means to be a Black person in a middle-class neighborhood yet there's still a long, long ways to go here with this as a sitcom. There's so much thinly-veiled racism here about skin-color and behavioral norms that it doesn't feel like the clean-cut show it's being propped up to be and really has a guilty air about because of that. Coupled with a rather displeasing pace which isn't that funny, this won't last too long.

Selfie-After an accident forces her to realize the error of her ways, a self-absorbed woman asks a co-worker to remake her image in order to succeed in life. Certainly not as all-together terrible as I thought it would be, instead this turns out to be rather enjoyable. The central premise is actually one that can hold itself up for a while because she's such a train-wreck of a person that needs a lot changed about her which can be whittled away slowly and surely which you can't do in a feature-length effort so this is something than can work. The undercurrent story of her helping him does have the potential for some gold-mines in terms of the both of them needing to be fixed at the same time so there's a lot to work with there, hopefully the working group around them can get fleshed out so there's more than can be done with them and with a pretty decent supporting cast around them, this might be promising. Manhattan Love Story-After moving to New York, a shy woman and a playboy decide to give their unconventional romance a chance. I'm not entirely sure where this one's going to go that will allow this one to go for a while, it's a typical rom-com played out as a sitcom which doesn't make for very promising material to come with this being way too cliched to work as both a sitcom or a feature-length rom-com. The leads aren't good enough to hold my interest, it's their mutual friends that set them up which is more fun to watch and I'll do that until something else comes on that's more entertaining. That's all this one will be for.

Bad Judge-A pill-popping, hard-partying, moral depraved judge tries to balance having fun with her judicial responsibilities while raising the foster child her actions left her in charge of. All together not too bad here, though I'm not really seeing a lot of the 'bad-judge' actions that the first few moments promised. It makes for a slightly funnier take when those are brought front and center though there's a distinct lack of that going on once she begins her parental responsibilities. Granted, some of that is funny, but it's not nearly enough to counteract the sentimentality that goes along with it. If this can find a good balance between such material, it may be onto something. With nothing else in the running for the time-slot, we'll have the chance to find out. A to Z-Follows the burgeoning romance of a couple from the moment they first come into each other's lives to their eventual connection with each other. Still not quite sold on this one despite they're being some nice promise here. The meet-cute is fine, the eventual meeting of the couple isn't horrendous and there's more to like with the supporting cast than initially expected so it does have some promise. Just not entirely sure where this is going to go or play out: will getting them together and dating be the end of the storyline? Do they get married at the finale? Is this going to chronicle their married lives together? I'm just not solid on the entire premise to this one so there's some lingering doubt about this one in the future, but much like the above with nothing challenging this time slot I don't mind the wait.
