From ShockTillYouDrop.comTrick 'r Treat Still at Warner Bros.
Source:Warner Bros.
Yep, it appears Mike Dougherty's Trick 'r Treat still resides within the halls of Warner Bros. Word came down via some updated publicity info sent out to the press this afternoon. This contradicts previous reports here on Shock, and elsewhere, that the film was "dumped" by the studio. So, the good news is: The film still has a home. The question still remains, however: When is it coming out?
That's the great mystery of the universe.
Written and directed by Dougherty, this patchwork of horror stories woven around Halloween stars Brian Cox, Leslie Bibb, Dylan Baker, Rochelle Aytes, Anna Paquin, Moneca Delain and Lauren Lee Smith.

From ShockTillYouDrop.comDirector Off of Heart-Shaped Box Source:Fangoria
Warner Bros.' adaptation of Joe Hill's ghost story Heart-Shaped Box goes on without helmer Neil Jordan (Interview with the Vampire).
"My understanding is that Jordan wrote a really great script, but then he was asked to do revisions and then there was the writers' strike," Hill explains in an interview with Fangoria. "I know they've done another rewrite [since], and I couldn't tell you whether it was Jordan who did it or someone else. But that one continues to be developed."
Meanwhile, another Hill tale, Locke & Key, is actually being developed as a television series, not a feature film as previously reported. According to Hill, Frank Darabont (The Mist is closing in to write and direct the pilot. A twelve-episode run is expected.

From ShockTillYouDrop.comEnglund: Krueger is Out for Thornton Source:JoBlo
Robert Englund kicked up a rumor last night on the radio show Loveline.
Promoting the upcoming release of Jack Brooks: Monster Slayer, the actor admitted he's heard rumblings Billy Bob Thornton is circling the Freddy Krueger role in the upcoming Nightmare on Elm Street reboot. As we've reported in the past, it's unlikely Englund will return wearing the sweater and glove.
But before everyone gets all fired up, a few things to consider: Wesley Strick has just come on board to write the script, so casting is a ways off. Platinum Dunes producers Andrew Form and Brad Fuller clearly stated at Comic-Con that their involvement with the project is still not locked. Furthermore, this is strictly - again - rumor from an actor not even creatively involved in the remake. (At best, Englund may get a cameo.)

From ShockTillYouDrop.comBilly Bob Krueger: Origin of a Rumor Source:IF Magazine
On Monday, word hit the online press that Billy Bob Thornton was rumored to be carrying on the Freddy Krueger role in the upcoming Nightmare on Elm Street remake.
Mind you, "rumored." From who? None other than Robert Englund who, despite not being attached, somehow had the inside track. I watch this rumor flourish as it made its way to the IMDB and Yahoo! where both sites all but confirmed it based on Englund's knowledge.
Ooookay. But they haven't even started casting yet. Hell, as we've stated before, the producers are not even locked in.
Anyway, this brings us to the question: Where did Englund get this "scoop"? Here, I present to you a sampling from IF Magazine's recent interview with Englund.
"I heard this rumor from a journalist at a press conference during Comic-Con. I think Billy Bob is a terrific actor. I've been a fan since Evening Shade."
So wait-a-sec...the actor heard this from another journalist - who could have been speaking complete out of his ass - at Comic-Con, a virtual hub of information where news could be fabricated on the spot. I'm sorry, for a second there I thought Englund was actually tipped off by someone on the inside, such as a producer or exec.
Not to knock my own kind, but an ill-informed reporter (and I do know he or she is ill-informed) telling an actor a slice of info who in turn regurgitates it to the hungry media is absolutely amusing to me.

From ShockTillYouDrop.com EXCL: Candyman Remake Buzz at Sony Source:Ryan Rotten
Hear that? No, that's not the sound of bees. It's the buzz, buzz, buzzing of another remake. And this time it's Bernard Rose's Clive Barker adaptation Candyman.
Shock learned today Sony and the rights holder to the film franchise - which has spanned three installments - are mulling over plans to resurrect the hook-handed, pimp coat wearin' urban legend made famous by Tony Todd. It's all "early talks" (I was told one idea was to make the titular killer a Caucasian fella) with no writer or director attached at this time.
Candyman's screen life - based on Barker's short story The Forbidden - began in '92 at Sony. He bounced from MGM then to Artisan for the sequels Candyman: Farewell to the Flesh and Candyman: Day of the Dead, respectively. The third chapter was released in '99.
The original film starred Virginia Madsen, Xander Berkeley and Kasi Lemmons.
Some can balk that it's too soon (or downright unnecessary) for a remake, but for Sony, it makes sense given the spate of remakes over the last five years dredging up revamped cinematic massacres featuring everyone from Leatherface, Michael Myers and Jason Voorhees to even Harry Warden. Candyman represents one established horror icon they have in their vaults they could potentially bank on (Richard Fenton from Prom Night is going to cut it).
You almost knew it was coming. A Candyman remake was inevitable. The gears are in motion and we'll keep you updated as we hear more.

From ShockTillYouDrop.comO'Brien's Stern Words About Rocky Horror Source:BBC
"I have no view on whether it should be remade but it doesn't have my blessing," says Richard O'Brien, writer and co-star of The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Commenting to the BBC about Sky Movies and MTV's Rocky Horror remake - announced last month - he adds that he is in fact not co-producing this new vision, contrary to early reports.
"I've even heard that they're going to put new songs in," he tells the press. "I wrote the book, the music and the lyrics. Where are they going to get the songs from? Who's going to do that? That's a bit strange isn't it?"
Executive producer Lou Adler is overseeing the redux for MTV which has plans to air Rocky Horror on television. Sky Movies will give it a theatrical run abroad.

From ShockTillYouDrop.comWB Sending Trick 'r Treat to DVD? Source:Moviesnob
Since learning last week that there was an internal error at Warner Bros. that erroneously placed Michael Dougherty's "where the F is it?" horror anthology Trick 'r Treat on theatrical publicity sheets issued to us press folk, the search for the truth concerning its whereabouts began yet again.
A WB rep could not confirm or deny if it was still at the studio. Then, we spoke to an insider who assured us that, yes, it's still at the studio and any reports that it was being pawned off was a bunch of bunk.
Now, a trusted biz source writing in anonymously as "Moviesnob" says, "Just got an email. Warner is keeping Trick 'r Treat, but it's going direct-to-DVD."
Looking at Warner's recent success with DVD fare such as the Raw Feed series and Lost Boys: The Tribe, it doesn't sound like the strangest business maneuver on their part. Just an unfortunate one.

From BloodyDisgusting.comWriter Putting the Breaks on Uni's 'Death Race'?
It looks as if Universal Pictures remake of Death Race could be crashing before it even hits the wall. Writer Adam Stone is in a race to stop the release of Universal's film, which is slated to hit theaters everywhere this Friday. The reason? Plagiarism. Read on for the story and watch for news as it develops.
Stone claims in a copyright infringement lawsuit filed Tuesday in Los Angeles federal court that the upcoming Universal thriller is based on a script he pitched to the film's producer-director Paul W.S. Anderson and producer Jeremy Bolt. He seeks a court order stopping the film's release.
Stone claims that after the producers passed, Bolt made and kept a copy of his screenplay, titled "Joust," to use as a "blueprint" for Anderson's revision of the script for "Death Race."
While "Death Race" is purported to be a remake of the 1975 film, "Death Race 2000," Stone contends in his lawsuit that it actually is based on "Joust" and that there are at least 39 elements in the soon-to-be released film that mirror his screenplay.
Universal, which is a defendant in the lawsuit, declined comment on the lawsuit.
"Death Race," which stars Jason Statham and Joan Allen, is set for release FridayAug. 22. Stone is asking the court to stop the release of the film.
"Experience in other cases has shown that unless such orders are issued, defendants will simply continue to exploit the infringing motion picture in all media and by all methods at their disposal," the lawsuit states.
Stone seeks unspecified damages.

That looks awesome. Big fan of the original and this one looks to be a decent take on it. The fact that it wrapped last april suggests reshoots. Hope it's consistent.
