I might actually end up seeing this one in the theater since my ANOES blu ray came with a free ticket.

I saw a new clip where Nancy meets Freddy in a snowy enviroment he asks her if she remembers him and then rubs her arm and starts laughing. Freddy said something along the lines of " You were my first" so maybe they are sticking with the whole molestor thing

Sawbit last night. Does not hold a candle to the original but it was actually much better than I was expecting. Thereis a surprising level of fun to be bad here. And some parts were legitimately scary

I would, but then again don't waste any money on this...the only good thing was Jackie as Freddy and Freddy was so poorly written they even stole a pun from Nightmare 4!!!!!

I definitely missed Robert Englund, and I think that some of the CGI updates make the film less scary than it would be (I am thinking particularly of the scene that is the equivalent of Tina's death in the original), but it had its moments. It actually make me jump once or twice, and the comedy angle that the sequels devolved into has been ditched in favor of a very bleak an frightening story that surprisingly delves eeper into the pedophilia elements of Freddy's story than the original dared to. Some aspects of it actually have a pretty intense ick factor

The scene of Freddy coming out of the wall was pitiful, it looked so fake, you could tell it was CGI

So we watched this tonight and I liked it. I do agree some of the special effects are disappointing and I have a hard time believing all of these kids would have forgotten so much, but a couple of scenes actually made me uncomfortable. Some of it was done much better than I expected it to be. The cast is a mixture of kind of likable and forgettable. I think Jackie Earle Haley was good in the role, in a different way. It wasn't nearly as good as the original film, or as scary, but the fact that they kind of focused on the fact that he was a pedophile was effective and creepy. I can see why some would hate it, but I thought it was a solid remake.

They should have left it alone, remake the sequels they need it

After I saw it in the cinema, I was indifferent to the remake, didn't hate it by no means but I certainly didn't love it either.Yet I find myself eager to check it out again now it has hit the home formats,so maybe I liked it more subconciously than I thought. Stay tuned ...

As I said when I first heard of it and then watched it, I'm more interesting in-seeing them do the second one, if they do, hopefully they can fix everything that the other films ruined after the first Nightmare

Having caught up with this one, I'd end up giving this one a 3.5/rounded down to a 3 if we had a poll for it. Some good stuff here, with the trips into the nightmare world being incredibly well-done and being far more frightening in concept and execution than expected, including some that outdid the original without much difficulty. Some didn't work, but most did and it worked rather well when it kept itself in that world. The kills were good and bloody, the story kept moving and it really didn't have much wrong with the pedophile angle, which was a nice touch, but it does have some major problems. Freddy really doesn't look as scary as he should've, as for some reason, especially around the mouth and lips, he doesn't evoke a sense of fear and looks more like a skinned pup-seal rather than a burned human. The make-up needed a lot of work, and the fact that the investigation into Freddy occurs so late into the film, making it seem like the revelation of him being a pedophile as a big shocker comes out of nowhere since we don't know anything at all about what's going on at the time, and it's only once we know that when we get into the rest of the backstory that it's really cleaned up, which leaves it a little disjointed. Overall, it's much better than expected, though it still has some flaws.
Having officially caught up with the NOES remake, I'm going with the TCM remake. Great gore, stupendous stalking scenes, tons of suspense, and most important, actually making me a fan of one of the films in the series is a big accomplishment since I've never cared at all for the original and think it's so greatly overrated, but actually getting me into it deserves a lot of praise.

I gotta say, this was much better in the comfort of my own home.
And there's one aspect that actually makes it better than all the sequels - and that is it succeeded in making Freddy, a despicable, sick bastard, whom you can't root for.Especially in the 2nd half.
Easily the 2nd best of the big four remakes IMO.

I was actually really disappointed in that one aspect of the film, personally, as it's dropped so late into the film without any build-up that comes out of nowhere. They just start with the backstory about the kids being at the school and then out comes "He raped you, sweetie." There was a lot they could've played with before to really make it sink in more: using sexual taunts without being explicitly stated while tormenting her, making references to seeing her again the first time they met, or remarking how good it felt to see her squirm and suffer like she used to, stuff like that which builds a mystery about his past interactions with her, then when the bombshell comes that they were all at the school and he screwed them, drives home even more how despicable and unlovable he really was and gives the film a little more oomph as well giving the parents a little more validation in their handling of him when they set him on fire. A pedophile reveling in that nature? Burn the bastard!
