What are your thoughts on the nightmare remake in the works?

Oh yeah, I forgot, I wanted to post this in here..... I'm looking forward to this one (despite myself), though still trying to keep my expectations low. Hard to think of anyone but Robert Englund as Freddy. But I thought Jackie Earle Haley was great in Watchmen, and I have to admit, I think he's a pretty good choice for this role.

They have already said that the 'new' Freddy wont be as camp as Englunds Freddy became. That's reassuring.

I don't really give a damn either way. Like Phantom said, the campiness-deterence is nice and is what really got me off watching the original series (I think the last time I ever watched an entry in the series was back in 2004) but then I'm not a huge follower of the series to begin with as Freddy never really did anything for me. Plus, my theatrical remake avoidance is still going, so there's another strike against this one.

Yes, it is....though I hope they don't get rid of his personality completely......I always thought, even in the first one, he had a sense of humor....it just needs to more twisted and make him creepier, not what he turned into (though I have to admit, I enjoy most of the NOES movies, except for maybe Hellraiser, its my favorite horror movie franchise).

I've just never gotten into Freddy, I never saw the big deal with the character. A psychotic child-molestor turns into a hero simply because he cracks lame puns? I just never got it.
I probably wouldn't feel bad if I never see the original films again, I don't have an urge to watch them at all. I'll see this one but that'll probably be the last time in my life I see one of these.

The originals the only one I truly enjoyed so I'll give the remake a chance. I'm sick of remakes like everyone else but I feel like I have to give in if I wanna see new horror movies, especially ones from these famous franchises! Grrr

Earlier in the year i got to see the original at a cinema screening, and must admit it hasn't aged too well, and was even a little hokey at times, so a remake may do alright. It's one of the few instances that I look forward to the CGI effects cause the nightmare scenes could be pheonomenal

I think the original has aged fine, I still love it. Yeah it's a bit hokey of course, and good point about the cgi effects for the nightmare scenes. I hadn't even considered that.

I'll need to see a trailer for that to come into play, as everytime someone puts CGI into a film it totally ruins the experience and makes the scene/film look like shit by comparison. I hate that practice almost as much as remakes, but with remakes I'm more flexible, there's very little about CGI that makes me happy.

Aren't those scifi creature features you like full of cgi?

True, indeed they are, but if you actually read the reviews I write, 9 times out of 10 that's the only thing wrong with the film. That's the only flaw, the lame and atrocious CGI for the main creature, and there I've come to expect it and not get bothered by it so much, since it's so often I grew numb to it. Doesn't mean I like it, but I accept it's there.

I really can't stand remakes. The Halloween remake was ok but the friday the 13th remake was imo the worst movie ever made. I have a feeling the new nightmare movie will be awful as i can't see anyone replacing robert englund as freddie. sorry

Boo and boo again. If ever there was a film that did not need a remake it is this one. You won't get a better director than Craven. You won't get a better Freddy than Englund. People forget this because of what the sequels devolved into, but the original NOES film was not really a slasher or a dead teenager film. It was a truly terrifying horror film that jolted you back and forth from the dream world to reality without you having any ability to tell where you were at any given time. The film created an environment where the only limit to the power of the killer was your own imagination and the imagination of his victims. He could literally do anything. That was what the original had going for it in spades, and that cannot be duplicated by remaking this for an audience full of desensitized teenagers who don't get the whole thing because they saw the sequels before the original.
The original is on the short list for scariest movies ever made. There is nothing to be gained by remaking this

is it just me or in the beginning part of the trailer do they indicate that freddy did nothing wrong? and i'm split. while i like jackie earle haley he'll never be robert. i might see it in theaters but i'll probably flip a coin on it. but in my opinioin NOES 2 was the scariest.
