You guys did have a winning record there. For a while, you guys were well over .500, and that hasn't happened since '90. Congrats. I still see them finishing second in the Central, but the other teams are going for the Wild Card and that's where you guys will be next year.

If we finish in 2nd in the central, I'll be shocked.

You're in fourth right now, behind Pittsburgh and Milwaukee. The Brewers are going to be the toughest challenge, but you guys can take the Pirates. Third might be more likely, but I still see a second place finish.
And, two other related notes on-topic. Knocked off a Reds game yesterday, which brings me to point number 2. CT has the Reds, HNT has the Yankees, I've got the Dodgers as my team. Little late for revealing that, but it finally felt germane to discussion in here. I'll say it was a hell of a game though, lot of fun.
Now I just have to wait for that Nationals vs Padres series and I'll be set.

lol, actually my team is the Mets (which I hope will allow me to be a bit more palatable to you). I just think that the Yankees get a bad rap when it comes to criticisms of their spending is all

Well, it's still New York. The last I'll say about the spending issues: The Rays are winning with a $60 Million Payroll. The Twins are winning with a $70 Million Payroll. You don't need $200 Million to win. That's just ridiculous. And here's a little extra bit on my Yankee hate: Considering what I revealed yesterday, what do the following years have in common-1941, 1947, 1952, 1956, 1977 and 1978?

Yankees World Series Titles?
And I had been meaning to ask you what your teams was GL wince you hadn't said but I figured Dodgers since LA, but didn't know. And I think the Pirates are probably the only team The Reds will finish in front of in the NL Central.

Close: Yankees World Series wins over the Dodgers. They've beaten us more times than any other team in the majors for the World Title.
And I don't know what game you was watching, but in the Reds game yesterday, you guys battled back twice to win over LA. Despite only hitting the one homer to our two, you beat us solidly to take the series, so you're a lot tougher than you give yourself credit for.
Outside of Harang, you've got a better rotation than the Cubs and Pirates, and you guys can outslug the Astros, so don't be surprised at all if they finish third or fourth.

I knew it must be some variation of Yankees ws wins since it didn't have their recent ones, but damn I had no idea those two had faced off in that way that many times!
And yeah I watched that game and was happy with it. I've just seen a pattern of doing decent the first half, and stinking the second half, usually finishing in 2nd to last.
I am happy with some of the changes new management has mare, including bringing in some decent pitching. But it hasn't paid off so far this season (ok I realize we're only a couple of weeks in) because with the exception of one guy, the rest of our rotation has sky high ERAs.
I hope you're right about us doing decent next year and even better in the future, but as a fan who has been disappointed for 15 straight seasons (well '99 was a great year but we missed the playoffs by losing a wild card game against the mets) I can only believe it when I see it. I'm hopeful yet very skeptical.

The thing to remember about the Yankees/Dodgers games is that, back then, there was no Wild Card, there was no divisional play. As soon as the season ended, the top team from the American League faced off against the top team from National League. You finished the season at the top, you won the pennant, no ifs, ands or buts. If you finished a game out, you were done. You had to tie at the top in order to have a chance (think 1951 and "The Shot Heard Round the World" for proof) so it was vastly different in terms of how they played, and look back at all those powerful Yankees teams in the 40s and 50s. Berra, DiMaggio, Rizzuto and all those guys, managed by Casey Stengel, so of course they were going into the Series most times than they weren't (they still hold the record of winning the pennant 11 out of 12 years and won 8 of those World Series, 5 in a row from 49-54, which accounts for the majority of their 27 all-time) and coupled with those great Dodger teams at the time, they were going to play a lot. 55 we won against them, then you see 56 on the list so guess what happened, 63 we beat them, then they faced off in 77 and 78, again on the list, and they finally faced off again in 81 and we beat them. Still, 3 wins in 11 shots.
I understand the skepticism, but believe me when I say this will be a surprising year for them, and next year will be better. Don't be surprised if you finish 3rd or even 4th this year.

Yes, but you are counting the time when the Dodgers were still in Brooklyn before they sold out and moved all the way to Los Angeles. That was such a back stabbing move that for all intents and purposes we are now talking about two different teams. Very few of us in NY will ever tolerate the Dodgers at this point, though many of our fathers and grandfathers grew up loving them.

Moving from one city to another doesn't mean anything. The city where they're from in the official name is completely irrelevant and means jack squat. Do that for the Giants, who did the same thing, or the Braves or Phillies, who all switched cities.
I'd rather feel that way about the Twins, who switched over from the Senators despite playing in the same city, or the Colt 45s, who became the Astros. Those should be teams that are more worthy of hatred rather than one which moved from a city since those examples are far more deplorable.
I don't hate any of them, just proving a point.
