I'm pretty sure he never used steroids so I give him credit for that. He would have recovered from his numerous injuries much more quicker if he had hehe.

Yeah, him and Frank Thomas are the ones I hold the most respect for from that time-period, seeing as how they were the ones that never had to do that, and I applaud them for doing so and still putting up HoF qualifying resumes. It's possible to do so without steroids, I don't know why so many had to do so.

Well, I don't think that they all had to. For every Sosa or McGwire who clearly benefited imeasurably from the juice, there are Bonds, A-ROD, Canseco, and guys like that who were clear first ballot hall of famers long before juice ever entered the picture.
See, I think it is more complicated than most people want to deal with. These guys are not just playing a game. They are professionals. They are paid an insane amount of money, and if there is something that they can do to improve their performance, they are expected to do it. I know that the rest of us are paid far less, and if there is something that can improve our performance at work, we are expected to do it. Sure cheating is wrong, but so is accepting tons of money while refusing to maximize one's potential. It is a less straightforward issue when you frame it properly

McGwire was going to be in the HoF first-ballot as well, since before his injuries he was still considered one of the top sluggers in the game at the time. Sure, his later half is somewhat tainted, but there's a clear difference in his case: he started hitting the ball 450-500 feet instead of 400-430, which to me isn't a big deal. They're still gonna be home runs no matter what part of the stadium you hit to (excluding Tiger Stadium) so no big deal on his part.
Sosa was the big one in this case, since he got his HoF credits while on the drug. Same goes for Bonds and A-Rod, since that was where the majority of 500 came from. Canseco was doing it the whole time, so I don't really give him any real credit at all.
But, to make my whole point, Junior and Thomas were doing it without having to take it, so that just goes to show what superior athletes they were to begin with to have comparable (and in some cases) superior numbers not taking it. They were better, therefore I have more respect for them. There's no shame it in, they're just better, end of story.
And on a recent baseball front, who else saw Strasberg's debut last night?

Have to disagree about Bonds. he was going to the hall based on numbers he was putting up in Pittsburgh, man

Maybe, I wouldn't know about first ballot but maybe. It wasn't until he got to San Fran that he started going over 40 homers, as his high in Pittsburgh was 35 or something like that. He was routinely in the 20s if I remember right, and it would've been his stolen bases that did it, not his power. He had a couple 40+ over there, but made 40-40 as a Giant so there's another thing there. He could've been in Pittsburgh, but as a first-balloter, I don't know.

So, the All-Star Game is about a month away, who do you all think should be the starting position players? Who do you want to make it but probably won't? Who do you think will be there that shouldn't?

Well, since the All-Star conversation got nothing going:
Congrats to Edwin Jackson for the 4th No-Hitter of the season, and certainly one of the more impressive ones done this year, and for the second no-hitter (and first true one) in the Diamondback's history.

Well, since I started this about the All-Star game, might as well put up my hopeful roster for the game:
Catcher- American: Joe Mauer (Twins) Kurt Suzuki (A's) John Buck (Blue Jays) National: Yadier Molina (Cards) Ryan Doumit (Pirates) Ivan Rodriguez (Nationals)
First Base- American: Miguel Cabrera (Tigers) Justin Mourneau (Twins) Kevin Youkilis (Red Sox) National: Albert Pujols (Cards) Prince Fielder (Brewers) Ike Davis (Mets)
Second Base- American: Dustin Pedroia would've been nominated, except for the injury, and I don't consider injured players at the time of the game to be eligible for this. Robinson Cano (Yankees) Ian Kinsler (Rangers) Orlando Hudson (Twins) National: Martin Prado (Braves) Brandon Phillips (Reds) Jerry Hairston Jr. (Padres)
Shortstop- American: Derek Jeter (Yankees) Alex Gonzalez (Blue Jays) Yunieski Betancourt (Royals) National: Jimmy Rollins (Phillies) Orlando Cabrera (Reds) Rafael Furcall (Dodgers)
Third Base- American: Evan Longoria (Rays) Alex Rodriguez (Yankees) Omar Vizquel (White Sox) National: Ryan Zimmerman (Nationals) David Wright (Mets) Scott Rolen (Reds)
Left Field- American: Josh Hamilton (Rangers) Carl Crawford (Rays) Brennan Boesh (Tigers) National: Ryan Braun (Brewers) Scott Hairston (Padres) Josh Willingham (Nationals)
Center Field- American: Austin Jackson (Tigers) Alex Rios (White Sox) Vernon Wells (Blue Jays) National: Michael Bourne (Astros) Carlos Gonzalez (Rockies) Marlon Byrd (Cubs)
Right Field- American: Ichiro Suzuki (Mariners) Nick Swisher (Yankees) Jose Bautista (Blue Jays) National: Jason Worth (Phillies) Justin Upton (Diamondbacks) Andre Eithier (Dodgers)
Designated Hitter- American: Vladimir Guerrero (Rangers) Mike Napoli (Angels) Billy Butler (Royals) National: Corey Hart (Brewers) Joey Votto (Reds) Troy Glaus (Braves)
Pitchers- American: Phill Hughes (Yankees) John Lester (Red Sox) Ricky Romero (Blue Jays) Carl Pavano (Twins) Cliff Lee (Mariners) Justin Verlander (Tigers) Freddy Garcia (White Sox) Mariano Rivera (Yankees) National: Ubaldo Jimenez (Rockies) Adam Wainright (Cards) Jaime Moyer (Phillies) Josh Johnson (Marlins) Mike Pelfrey (Mets) Jovanni Gallardo (Brewers) Clayton Richards (Padres) Matt Capps (Nationals)

Luckily your dreams will be crushed further after Lebron shows up wearing the Knicks blue and orange. I was waiting for that one... knicks So, any thoughts on this now that it has become the bigget issue in sports at the moment? As for me, my biggest thought is that I think the idea of an hour long television special to make this announcement is just incredibly stupid and ridiculous. I still hope he comes to NY, but something tells me that if he is doing it on television this way he will probably stay in Cleveland because that is the move that will have the whole world going on about how loyal he is or some other such nonsense.

He's going in on the fan vote today, man. I think he'll beat out Wagner, who has the most legitimate shot at beating him even though I really like Zimmerman in Washington. But Votto's got the last spot on the roster, soi he's definitely going.

Well Lebron announced a few minutes ago and I'm devastated. Can't say I blame him though. I do think Chicago or NY would have been better fits and the tv special was kinda f*cked up to cleveland fans but hey I want out of Ohio too, I can relate...
I didn't become a cavs fan until Lebron was drafted (I'm from the other side of Ohio) so I'll probably just become a Heat fan which I know is lame but the Cavs was the only opportunity I ever had to root for a team with such a great player..

Honestly, now that the smoke has cleared, I am a bit more disgusted by him than you are. Frankly, although I'd have liked to have him on NY, the only decent deciison for him to make would have been to stay in Cleveland. The team was offering him the league maximum, and he was single handedly supporting the entire economy of his hometown, which also happens to be one of the most economically depressed cities in the country. Think about that, if you could both be a millionaire and do a lot to help Cincinatti become a better place to live, wouldn't you do it? Shouldn't we think less of anyone too selfish to try? And this whole idea tht I should have sympathy for him because he is "only" going to make $100 million dollars instead of $120 is simply repulsive to me. For God's sake, Cleveland has double digit unemployment and is full of desperate people. Absolutely shameful on his part. What an asshole. As a Knicks fan, it makes me even prouder to have had the opportunity to have watched a truly loyal and decent man in Patrick Ewing, who stayed loyal to our team and turned down other offers that probably would have netted him a ring just because he cared that much about our city.
As for you, if you want out of Ohio, just do it man. Don't wait. Enroll in college, finish up, and be done with it. Moving sounds much scarier and harder than it really is.
