I liked this one the best becasue of the mix of horror and comedy of done so well. No matter how many times I see Ash try to sit down and fall, then the deer head starts laughing at him and he laughs...The look on his face when he turns to laugh gets me everytime.

“Evil Dead II: Dead by Dawn” is just as demented and crazy as it’s predecessor.
**SPOILERS**
Ash Williams, (Bruce Campbell) having survived the previous nights experience, awakes and finds himself again under attack. Locked inside and fearful he’s going crazy, he battles to keep them from taking him over. When visitors Annie Knowby, (Sarah Berry) her boyfriend Jake, (Dan Hicks) Bobbie Joe, (Kassie DePaiva) and Ed Getley, (Richard Domeier) arrive and misconstrue the events, they release the demons Ash had been fighting to prevent. Trapped together and with the evil spirits trying harder than ever gain possession of their souls, the fight to survive gets bloodier and bloodier.
The Good News: The original “Evil Dead” is one of the greatest horror films of any generation, and the sequel is just as great. The madcap energy of the first is more than adequately replicated here, and the film feels full of energy. This is mainly due to the trademark Raimi style of a hyper camera rather than anything, and there is plenty of those types of fancy camera movements, odd angles, and the creature point-of-views that are commonly found in his movies. It gives the film a quality that makes it feel more alive with energy and momentum than what would normally be present in a scene. The earlier attacks on Ash in the cabin are prime examples as the way the camera moves around to capture the cabin and all the crazy happenings. That is some of the best scenes in the movie, as the cabin comes alive in a sense that has never been seen before or since. The early stuff really gets under a person’s skin and there are enough in here to prove that the cabin itself is a character in the film. One of the earliest images in the movie is two eyes coming out in front of the cabin, almost lining up with its windows. The cabin is drab grey with brown walls, a ticking clock, mounted deer's head, beat up old piano, and more. All these items not only come into play during the film, but they help give the set its own personality. The biggest personality, though, belongs to Bruce. This is his film without a doubt, with so much screen time spread throughout the movie and he gets a lion’s share of blood, guts, and other matters of that ooze spread all over him. His battle with his hand is one of the signature scenes in the entire series, and it's all thanks to Campbell's skill as a physical comedian that makes for a hilarious scene. It really does help more like a comedy than a horror film because of this, but the horror elements are still there. Most obvious is the repeated shock jumps. It’s really heard to find a film out there that contains as many shock jumps as this one that work. It’s not that there are so many “boo” moments, it’s the surprising number that work and get the jump. Just about everyone in here either pops up unexpectedly on someone or has it done to them. From under the floor, under the stairs, behind doors, just about everywhere they pop up and for some reason it works. Just as in the first one, there is a large amount of gore in here. It doesn’t flow with the same intensity, but it is the same general style. The cartoon-ish approach is nice, providing some over-the-top blood gags in the extreme tradition of the first one. The prop work here is just excellent, providing a large number of dismembered limbs, body wounds, and different creatures and their make-up. That make-up on the possessed is appropriately disgusting, with blank white eyes, disfigured facial features and overly large distorted mouths. There’s an ingeniousness to them that is nicely captured on screen, and while they make look fake, there’s no denying their power or ingeniousness.
The Bad News: There’s only a couple things in here that got to me. When thinking about the plot, especially early in the movie, not a whole lot made sense. One character is possessed by the creatures, and remains so for the early part of the movie, then all of a sudden, in the middle it disappears and never comes up again. It’s weird that something that powerful could be gone just that easily. The special effects don’t always look realistic, and are just the right side from laughable. And finally, this isn’t a remake! The beginning part of the movie is a recap, and while there are a few features and scenes similar, there not that close. It isn’t a repeat, instead it’s a continuation of part one.
The Final Verdict: Keeping in mind it isn’t a remake, this is still one of the better films out there. It’s fun and has a demented sense of humor, just like the first one, but this is the last true horror film in the series, as this one’s sequel is a comedy. A no-brain recommend for fans of the first one, and also to those who want to check out a classic in the genre.
Rated R: Extreme Graphic Violence, some Language and Brief Nudity

Another nice review GL. I am going to watch this movie again very soon, because I ain't sure what character you are talking about here. "One character is possessed by the creatures, and remains so for the early part of the movie, then all of a sudden, in the middle it disappears and never comes up again."

Ash. Remember, he keeps popping up on the girl with the demon face, then after he knocks her on the bookcase, he begins fighting it and then it just disappears. It's Ash I was referring to, I just didn't want to spoil it for those who hadn't, as it was sent to IMDb as well.
