I love these lists because I get to add films I haven't seen to my own wish list - flicks like Nightbreed and (I confess) Cabin Fever Nightbreed is great, I really do recommend that one to everyone that I have talked to that hasn't seen it (well, horror fans) because I think it is one that really should be seen. I have always hoped for a sequel, but I think there is little chance of that happening....lol.

#10 Jason X - Sure this movie does what a horror movie sould never do (take the character and put it in space), but this movie has some really good stuff in it. Jason X looks great and some of the kills are great too. #9 Dawn of the Dead (Remake) - I really don't understand why so many people don't like this movie. Its got a great story and some of the best zombie stuff in years. #8 Trick or Treat - Coming out in a time where Freddy and Jason ruled, this movie was just left out in the cold. #7 Nightbreed - Not as good, and did not make as much money as Hellraiser or Candyman, but its still a great monster movie. #6 Land of the Dead - Did anyone really think this movie was going to be as good as the other dead movies? For what this movie is it is great. #5 Jason goes to Hell - This is just one of my favorite Jason movies. #4 Jaws 2 - I love this movie, its a great follow up movie. #3 The Gate - I remember loving this movie as a kid, but I don't see much about it now-a-days. #2 Killer Klowns from Outer Space - Come on people what more can you ask for? This movie has Killer Klowns from Outer Space in it. lol #1 Book of Shadows Blair Witch 2 - This movie is a hell of alot better than the first Blair Witch movie, yet people dog it all the time. (Phantom lol)

Great list. I too feel that the two New Line Jason films were very good and are vastly underappreciated.

That is a great list Conan......nice to see Trick or Treat on someone else's list...lol... I didn't care for either of the Jason films, but the rest of the list I do like. Some of them I like a lot. Oh and The Gate rocks.....well, I remember loving it as a kid as well, but haven't seen it in ages, so my opinion may have changed.

1. Squirm (1976) - Mystery Science Theater 3000 really embarrassed themselves by featuring this movie. The director actually meant for the characters to come off the way the actors performed them. 2. Arachnophobia (1990) - I've looked all over the internet, and you wouldn't believe how much this movie gets slammed. And do you know why? Just because they say "spiders aren't scary." These spiders are! 3. Open Water (2003) - another movie where people on the internet have the stupidest reasons for ripping at it. On the IMDb, people say the film is bad because... Blanchard Ryan is naked in bed on her vacation. Can you believe that? People didn't like that scene, so they think the movie's bad for that reason alone. They also don't approve of the film they used to shoot the movie on. I think the movie looks amazing. 4. Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan - I've finally begun to see the tide turn on this one. It took over 3 years, but people are starting to agree with me on this movie. It isn't bad just because the title is wrong. Which is a stupid reason to say the movie's bad anyway. 5. Dust Devil (1992) - this will probably move in placement on my list. But people say it's pretentious a lot... I don't see it. 6. Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1992) - this is such a well-made movie! Well-acted, well-written, funny, a little scary, very stylish, entertaining... The only thing I can find that's wrong with this movie is that Rutger Hauer is a little bit out of shape for his role as Lothos. 7. Ginger Snaps (1999) - this movie in the last couple years finally mets its backlash. I was told by everyone back in '03 & '04 that this movie is a damn good movie. When I bought a copy, I did not expect a MASTERPIECE. That's what this movie is. Through and through. And it's still the best horror movie I've seen this decade so far (made and released in Canada in '99, released in the U.S. several years later). Nothing has de-throned it (though American Psycho and 28 Days Later have come the closest). But unfortunately now, in this very desensitized decade full of sexism and hatred for women (Girls Gone Wild, Bush / the Republican's attack on women's reproductive rights, E!'s Girls Next Door, just turn on MTV or BET, dozens more examples), horror fans are starting to label this a "chick flick." And that's the nicest thing they're starting to say. 8. Rosemary's Baby (1968) - just because it's the greatest horror film I've ever seen and there are several online sources that are starting to doubt its power and quality. I may have more later... I too feel that the two New Line Jason films were very good and are vastly underappreciated. When are they going to make a "vomit"ing Smiley-face??

1) Halloween 3 - A truly fun little film that was very inventive and way better than all of the derivative rehashes and overdone Michael Myers boredom that followed
2) Phantasm 2 - Yes, we all love it, but this one was good enough to have some of the mainstream praise that eluded it and was heaped on interior films. I love this movie
3) Lord of Illusions - Scott Bakula kicks ass
4) Schramm - Somebody please get this film a legitimate American release. All of you would absolutely love it if you were actually able to see it.
5) The Frighteners - Peter Jackson's first foray into mainstream Hollywood was funny and inventive just like his underground Kiwi masterpieces.
6) Monkeyshines - Call me crazy, but I really dig the psychological tension in this one. While it might be a bit slow, I think the payoff is worth the wait
7) Suspiria - A film that gets plenty of praise in horror circles but deserves mainstream cross-genre appreciation as a truly masterfully made film. If this film was American it would have been one of the most popular horror film ever made. Too bad we are a bunch of xenophobic assholes.
8) Return of the Living Dead - The definitive zombie horror-comedy. Better than RE-Animator or Dead Alive (Braindead). I really love this movie, and not JUST for Linnea Quigley's cemetery striptease.
9) Martin - As good a vampire film as I've ever seen. On any given day, I might even prefer this to the Dead films.
10) The Fly (Cronenberg) - My favorite horror re-make. It is Cronenberg's best film IMHO, and I would say that it is on the short list for my favorite horror films. It was intelligent and deeply moving to me. Aside from mere gore, I actually found myself buying into the love story and feeling genuine emotions. A really, really good little film

I'd have to add Hardware (M.A.R.K. 13)
And I concur with HNT and Laz who have mentioned Phantasm 2 and Dust Devil
Also:
The Prowler (Rosemary's Killer) The Hitcher (original) Demons (Argento) Undead (and if you can class it as horror) Battle Royale

I would love to be able to see Phantasm II sometime. But I hesitate to pay thirty dollars for the VHS. Nice to see Lord of Illusions on your list, HNT. I completely agree. I also agree with Martin. That film doesn't get nearly enough love. Schramm I had never heard of until now that I remember.

I have a copy of the VHS somewhere up in my attic, if I can manage to find it - and if you feel comfortable giving a perfect stranger your address - I'll send it out to you.

That would be great, if you can find it. Been wanting to see it for awhile now, especially since I have finally learned to appreciate the first one. If you can't find it, that's okay I might just break down and buy it from Amazon.

I'm sure I'll be able to find it. I'll drive up to my parents' house this weekend and raid their attic for all my old movies and stuff (I have no room for ANYTHING at school).

I would love to be able to see Phantasm II sometime. But I hesitate to pay thirty dollars for the VHS. Just hack your DVD player Jen. The Phantasm sphere set (probably the best DVD box set ever) is still available on play.com.
