With his year's big scifi remake is just around the corner let's rate the Paul Verhoeven original. For extra credit consider: Will Len Wiseman's Total Recall be as unbearably shitty as The Thing 'prequel'? And for a free puppy* read my article on The Quietus here. *Puppy incentive may not be honoured.

I haven't seen this movie in ages but I really enjoyed it. Who can forget the three titty woman. Speaking of this movie, I think I might have seen it twice at the theater. I give it a five. I'm kind of interested in seeing the remake. They made a series called Total Recall 2070 that I haven't seen. I need to get it sometime.

I'll go 4. Got a little too happy with the double-crosses and plot twists in the second half but pure cheesy Arnold goodness. One of the first I saw of his work and a lot of fun overall.

Overblown, campy and awseome action goodness. A remake is an abomination and insult.

Just got done with your Total Recall piece, GP, and found it fascinating as always. Great read all around.

I give the movie a 4, the remake a "Why the fuck bother?", and your article as 5 as it was incredibly entertaining. Now then, where's my puppy, you limey bastard?

Very enjoyable read GP..... I have a soft spot for Total Recall, it's just a hell of a lot of fun. I'd give it a 4. And I will see the remake because for some reason I will watch anything with Colin Farrell or Bill Nighy in it.....and since both are in the remake.....it's inevitable. I even watched S.W.A.T. *sighs*

S.W.A.T. was one of the better parts of an utterly lame post-9/11 dearth in quality Action films, Jen. Nothing wrong with it at all, and it was quite enjoyable. I'll take that over 'Charlie's Angels' and 'The Italian Job' any day.

I didn't care for S.W.A.T. The Italian Job, or Charlie's Angels. The coolest recent action films in my estimation were Red, The Expendables, and the Bourne films (haven't seen the most recent one with Jeremy Renner taking over the role). The action film was really not a big deal in the 2000'as, but that isn't such a shock. These things go in cycles. Most people would tell you that 90's horror was weak sauce compared to the decade that preceeded it and the decade that followed. All of this stuff comes and goes in cycles. Fortunately, we appear to be in a period with plenty of action and horror.

Liked the cast....but otherwise thought S.W.A.T was pretty boring...enjoyed The Italian Job more. Charlie's Angels is annoying.
HNT loved Red and the Bourne movies but despite a fun cast, The Expendables was kind of disappointing for me.

The Expendables is definitely no great movie. Its all about the cast. Still, I thought it had the perfect 80's action movie hommage, where everything is bigger, louder, and dumber than the previous scene. That's the part I enjoyed. It was 50% action movie and 50% over the top parody of action movies.

I definitely need to give The Expendables a rewatch, as I recall initially I was overwhelmed by it but hated the cast, actually.

I always enjoyed Total Recall but always found it to be one of Arnie's lesser movies.
Heresy I know, but I have absolutely no problem with it being remade,as the original was adapted to be an Arnie vehicle, but this version may be purer if you get what I mean. What probably worries me the most about it, is that the original came out when I was a teenager - and they're already remaking it. I can't be that old already can I?
