A big improvement on the third. From a terrific opening sequence reminiscent of Hellraiser through to the psychological twist at the end this one delivered the goods. Very clever and gruesome.

Okay, this one I kind of liked, still think the films are overrated, but this one seemed pieced together a little better, the characters didn't annoy me as much, and yes, its gruesome. I will actually give this one a 3. Probably the first time ever that a third film in a series impressed me more than the first one (well, except for the Harry Potter films maybe.....and I can't believe I just brought up the Harry Potter films in a Saw thread....LOL).

3 from me. It is very dumb, but its a big improvement on the second and it does have enough quality gore to justify watching. The twisty machine absolutely frigging rocks. One of the best gore scenes in a mainstream horror release ever.
THat said, this series really needs to quit with th damn twists. They are unecessary and take away from the overall vibe of the movie

4/5. A decent movie. Much better than the second but not nearly as good as the first. Some very brutal deaths and some clever traps. A good storyline and a satisfying ending. Although I admit that it doesn't leave me wanting more. I would have been perfectly happy for the franchise to end here.

Let's see what they come up with. Though I admit the fourth instalments in most series fall pretty flat (Think F13, Phantasm, Hellraiser...)

i like this a little bit more than part 2 mainly because of how gruesome it is- after the first 15 mins i kept thinking how are they gonna top this, but they did.

I saw this at the cinema with Phantom last year... he will vouch for the fact Toad was cringing at a couple of sequences - the twisty machine in particular. Yoiks.

A 1 from me (half each goes to the big three tortures, The Hellraiser, The Ribspreader and The Rack, so we're all still in good company, as well as the surgery scene) but this one here is just more icing on the fact that I think this series sucks donkey testicles. Crappy tortures, hardly any of them to begin with since we've got to spend the majority of the time either in the hospital bed, which means we have to listen to the endless pontificating that annoys the hell out of me, or we're stuck with revisiting the behind-the-scenes work of the other entries, and none of them are worthwhile. We only get five traps in here, which is BS, since we have a whole lot of time spent on those two areas, and it just annoys me. Plus, this one here had one of the most fatal flaws ever in a film: I just didn't give a damn what happened in it. Nothing in here made me care what was happening, nothing kept my interest in it and I never knew why I was supposed to care about what was going on. A damning flaw, and nearly wipes out the goodness all on it's own. A piece of shit in a shit series to begin with.

2 for fun violence, otherwise pretty dull stuff. Fell asleep first time I saw it.

I would agree with Phantasm and Hellraiser, but I think that Friday the 13th PArt 4 with Corey Feldman and Crispin Glover was the high watermark for the series. It was certainly the best pre-zombie Jason if nothing else

I would say Friday Part 4 as well, and add both Halloween 4 and Leprochaun 4 as well, though I do have a really bad feeling going into Saw 4 about it being terrible.

Saw IV is by no means terrible. It just tries to be too clever by half, and the ending for me was one of those WTF? moments
