Well, I haven't sen Final DEstination yet, but I always thought that was a really fun and silly series that had just the right amount of tongue in cheek humor mixed in with the gore to make it more like a haunted house amusement than a really bleak horror film. I'm not surprised that it won.
As for Halloween 3D, it sounds cheesy as hell, but if it doesn't have Zombie attached, and it doesn't take itself too seriously, realizintg that the number of Halloween films makes the whole thing just somewhat absurd, then I am all for it.

That's how I feel about the Final Destination series as well, and honestly if this theater had been showing it as well, we probably would have seen it instead. So I am not surprised either. Not sure how I feel about a Hallloween 3D, though I do think it might be fun, I kind of wish they would just leave it alone already. Even though I enjoyed Zombie second one at the theater more than the remake, they were both unnecessary and I wish the hell we would see more fresh ideas out there. Now it looks 3D is the big thing right now, now they are using this (admittedly fun) gimmick to draw crowds in. It might be fun, but its just another way, in my opinion, we are going to see less and less actual GOOD horror. But hey, the last few months, I have noticed I am enjoying more and more. I think I am starting to lighten up a bit...haha....

Well, I kinda would agree that it seems like we are seeing less and less good horror, except this was the year that Sam Raimi moved away from his comic books and gave us Drag me To Hell in the theaters. It doesn't get much sweeter tahn that, so I can only complain so loud at the moment

I would have LOVED to see Drag Me to Hell in the theater (I am so looking forward to seeing it) but it didn't open anywhere near here. Maybe I would feel differently if I would have had the opportunity to see it. But it just seems to me, quality or anything fresh is being passed over or ignored so we just get more of well.....THIS..... And that obviously is partly (or mostly) the audience's fault. Which would be fine if it was a bit more even. I really wanted to see Midnight Meat Train in the theater as well, was hearing good things....and they released it in dollar theaters??? They didn't even give it a chance. I've heard REALLY good things about Trick 'r Treat and it not only doesn't get a wide theatrical release, but we have to wait FOREVER for the DVD?? And finally a movie like [REC] actually got an American remake way before it was even available on DVD for American audiences..... It just seems like that kind of thing is happening more and more, so the shelves and the theaters are more often than not chock full of the same, tired ideas. But hey, let them have it.....I am happy digging for the stuff I like..... Usually anytime I actually go and see a movie, my expectations are ridiculously low...lol.

That's the way I view it Jen, about how the whole rash of terrible quality mainstream releases. The way I see it, there are thousands of films just waiting to be discovered in back-catalogs, and that's good enough for me.

God, can't this 3-D fad just fuck off and die? I'm getting sick and tired of these films in that format, the films aren't good in 2D version, the 3D form is usually a mess and now this? Ugh.

Here, here, my good man. 3D is a gimmicky tool to get the unwashed Masses i.e. the sought after demographic with disposable money, into the theater.

Exactly. My friend went to see MBV 3D and said it was a terrible experience. He went back into a normal theater and raved about it from that experience.
Besides, hasn't history told us that it'll never lead to viable films being produced in that department.

DOn't know about that, GL. Vincent Price's House of Wax was pretty viable and certainly in 3D. It is a gimmick, so I am certainly not suggesting that it will take hold accross the board, but it does not always have to result in completely terrible films.

I agree HNT that it doesn't always have to result in a terrible film. But I see GLs point in that it seems to be a current trend that is coinciding with some less than stellar efforts.

Like I said, I definitely think it can be a lot of fun (I really enjoyed My Bloody Valentine in 3-D). But yes, it is a gimmick and I don't think every other horror movie that comes out should be in 3-D or anything. I think we are about to see A LOT of them hit, based on this news and similar other talk. Its like with any other idea, they will have to beat it to death before they realize that just because you make a film in 3-D, it doesn't mean its going to be successful. People are going to get bored with it, I think.

I hope it's a remake of Halloween III: Season of the Witch!
