Yes that's it exactly, he had focus and went for it with everything he had in his mind, feelings and personal experiences, which I think is what most really great actors use in their acting. As they say about comics, they tend to be very troubled individuals and that is what fuels their comedy. That darkness hat everyone has within themselves, which actors let out when they act.

All right, I think that's a bit of a start then. It's a little better than I figured it would be, since I didn't know that part was what you wanted me to look at, but like I said, that bit jumped out at me quite easily looking at them back-to-back, beyond the fact that it was the immortal sequence everyone keeps imitating which threw me for a second. But what do you know, 20 years into my movie-watching experience and I finally have an idea what acting is! ;D ;D ;D

Cool, man. Glad to hear it. Your description of what was wrong with Elizabeth Berkeley's performance was spot on, and so was your description of the positives about DeNiro's. Now, I know it is a little hard to do with such short scenes out of the context of the rest of the movies, but if you can, think how those two actors made you feel. That hesitation in the first scene made it clear both that she wasn't really turned on by the other woman, nor was she really all that hurt at the end when she went storming out of the room. She was just reading lines. She didn't feel anything. DeNiro, on the other hand, went right into it with no hesitation. He seems like somebody who feels insulted, angry, and bullied by life, and who is preparing to get some revenge. He seems unstable. He seems angry. He seems dangerous and a little scary, like if you actually saw him in real life he might hurt you. In short, DeNiro sold you on the emotions involved in what he was feeling. Elizabeth Berkeley (the girl in the first scene) did not seem like she was really feeling much of anything. You get it, man

Great, I guess. Now it's just a matter of putting that into effect, so I hope that means watching a bunch of movies in order to get practice with it. Thankfully, Halloween is about a week and a half away, and we're starting all our marathons up to it in a day or so, so I'll be pretty busy with all that stuff.

Its all in the eyes
Theres an old saying, some actors have closed faces, others have open faces. When you look into the eyes of a great actor you can really see the wheels turning in their mind. Then there are others who look blank and you can tell there ain't much going on inside their head.
Think of it that way and watch those two clips again, you can see who's wheels are turning and who's aren't

Well I don't really pay attention to people's eyes all that much, like I said before, I tend to watch films from the viewpoint of being a character involved in the action watching everything that's going on, and I don't really look at the eyes that closely. Plus, even if I did, my TV is on the opposite side of the room so I have a good 7-8 feet of space between the sofa and the TV, so a lot of stuff will get lost in the distance since I'm not right up on it when I'm watching.

So we watched this tonight. A disturbing and all around well done film. Glad I bought it, glad I watched it.....but I tend to agree with Matt in that I do prefer Price's campier films. Especially this time of year I prefer more "fun" films, and this is downright depressing. I get that is the point, and I understood that going in. Gets a 4 from me.

I really don't consider Witchfinder horror. Just a horrifically brutal drama based on historic events. Don't mind it being considered horror though it is pretty gutwrenching with the hangings and whatnot.

Yes, they're as tolerant and understanding today as they were back then haha.
P.S. I just added a poll to this thread so please rate the movie if you haven't already.

5 for the film, which I absolutely adore. And extra high marks, as you have aptly pointed out, for serving as a documentary about the present day teaparty movement
