You got me there on the writers, I don't keep track of that kind of stuff, but great stuff Jen.

I'll agree with this too. Zombie has actually shown some promise as a director, and has developed some really intense and cool sequences even in his worst films. House of 1,000 Corpses had some brilliantly disturbing stuff when the police were slaughtered (before the Dr. Satan garbage), and the opening hospital sequence in Halloween 2 really set a tone that had me thinking it would be one of the best slashers I'd ever seen before completely abandoning that and doing something boring and uninteresting. His problem really is in the fact that he cannot write interesting characters and I find myself completely bored with all of them. This was even an issue for me at time in The Devil's Rejects, though overall it was an enjoyable film.
And, I think it's worth pointing out that we are not a demanding bunch when it comes to this stuff, and his failure to write characters good enough to satisfy us must be seen as an utter failure. I mean, I'm not looking for Macbeth here. I'd be more than happy with some teenagers that didn't act so fucking obnoxious that I was entirely uninterested in wehther or not they died. When your average F13 sequel has better characters, you've hit the bottom of the barrell

It's not even that I find them boring.....more that I feel like why should I care about these people as victims at all? Which is an odd feeling for me, because it's ridiculously easy for me to care about characters in movies. Nightcrawler.....no particular writers in mind....hey, he can hire me and I'll take a red pen to his scripts. Then I will ask him why in hell he thinks people act and talk this way..... I like the fact that he is kind of bold in his filmmaking in a way that most mainstream horror directors aren't.....but honestly I think in some ways he is trying too hard.

I like Rob Zombie....and think he could be a damn good director if he would get over focusing on remakes and trashy characters.....it worked for The Devil's Rejects, which is a favorite of mine.....but what worked there is not going to work for every single film he makes. Wish he would join up with a solid writer that would rein him in a little and focus on original projects, he has a rather nasty sense of humor, a good feel for gore and building up a certain kind of dread.....he just can't write believable characters and dialogue. This. Well said. I agree with Jen.

Personally, I find his characters to be cliches of cliches, if that makes sense. And when you ask him why he thinks people act and talk this, I'd like to be right behind you and get the explanation as well.
