Well, I hate to admit to this one:
I never found Spinal Tap all that funny. A few pretty good gags (the timeless Stone Henge, getting lost underground and the trapped in the stage-prop gags) were the only ones that I mildly laughed at at worst. Most of the time it just felt bad stupid, not good stupid. Maybe because I know nothing of the business, which I've heard is a reason why it's so good whenever I reveal this to others, but I still don't really find it that funny.

I also know nothing of the music industry but am old enough to recall the overblown absurdity and sheer pretentiousness of the big prog rock bands of that era and the makers of Tap hit the nail right on the head with their characterisations. Incidentally the Tap DVD has possibly the greatest commentary track ever.

Fear of a Black Hat
A Hard Day's Night
Tommy
Quadrophenia
Yellow Submarine.
All of the above are worth a look. Also, don't forget about some of the better concert documentaries out there if that is of interest.
Monterey Pop, Woodstock, and Martin Scorceses film about The Band (can't think of the name right now) are all excellent. And Don't Look Back (Scorcese's film on Dylan) is essential viewing for all Bob Dylan fans

The single most played DVD in Toad's entire collection - hands down - would have to be Iron Maiden's 2 disc Rock in Rio. Have just about worn the bastard out.

Not really in the music industry but certainly related to it i really like the movie Warning:Parental Advisory about the senate committee hearings and the battle with the Pmrc which led to the sticker that gave the film its title .Dee Snider played himself - what more could you ask for

Yeah, I remember watching that when it first came out as well. I thought it was pretty good. Nice choice.
