I'm not sure I'm going to outright hate it. Remember, 95% of the crappiest movies of all time I thoroughly enjoy so a few negative reviews don't really bother me. But you didn't like Zombie's other films. this is not a Halloween movie. It is House of 1,000 Corpses with a Michael Myers mask. If that is what you're after you'll love it That isn't an indication I'm going to hate it. Yes, I didn't think House of a 1000 Corpses was any good and TDR's was overrated, but I still sat down and watched them. That's exactly what I'm going to do. It'll be later than normal, but I'm still going to watch it.

Where to start.....*sighs* First of all, I didn't hate it exactly......I think there was a little bit of good there. It just wasn't a Halloween movie. This wasn't Michael Myers. The first hour or so was ridiculous, there was no mystery. Zombie pretty much turned Michael into a garden variety psychopath. There was absolutely no depth to Laurie. As HNT mentioned, there wasn't much in the way of suspense, if any. And he made the death count so much higher to make up for it.
I still like the casting of McDowell, the mask was well done, and it did get better in the second half....hell, if it wasn't a remake of Halloween, I probably would have liked it a bit more. But as a remake of Halloween, Zombie let us down. Just a huge disappointment. I give it a 2.

Hmm, seems like I should view it as "slasher film set on Halloween" for maximum enjoyment. That better be a loaded DVD for me to pick it up.

Oh and there were a couple of scenes that were lifted almost directly from the original, and I am not sure that I liked his approach there. I think you will probably dislike the first half hour or so as much as I did GL, where it just beat us over the head with how dysfunctional this kid's life was. It was so unnecessary, no subtlety there whatsoever...lol.

I'm not saying too much more about it until I see it, but not looking too great.

I liked this movie alot. I loved how Zombie made it his own movie, in his own style. Even though I loved it, it did have a few scenes I hated. (More on that when I review it.) Me being a Zombie fanboy did add to how much I liked the movie. That being said if this came from anyone else it would not been as good. We would have had Zombie fans saying that it is too much like a Zombie movie, and Halloween fans saying it was to different from the origional. I will be getting this on dvd for sure!!

I guess I'm not surprised that you liked it because you have always been a pretty big Rob Zombie fan and you like remakes in general more than I do. Luckily this is HM&m and not IMDB so there won't be a flame war over this movie, LMFAO

He even said it added to it as well, so there you go.

After having had some time to reflect on it (I saw it on opening night), I guess my best advice is thus:
It's not a great movie, it isn't really even a good movie. But, if one can seperate it away from the original and enjoy some of the decently staged killings, you'll walk away happy, or at least not pissed.

That is a skill I can do, so I'll be able to recognize that about the film.
