I just saw it. I feel violated by a magician. It rocked. It was as good as #1, maybe even better.

I just posted a review of this, if you're so inclined.
I gave it a 4.

I give it a two but really would consider it about a 1.5. There is no suspense. Every scene is a straight ahead dead giveaway of what the payoff will be. Zombie tries to disguise the lack of imagination by upping the body count and gore quotient, but this does nothing to elevate this above any number of sub par Halloween sequels. There is no steady-cam to speak of. No slow and ominous pace. Its all MTV style editing supplemented with an extra noisy soundtrack and gore.
The biggest mistake is spending almost 40 minutes developing Michael Myers from childhood. This makes the focus of the film more about him and reduces Laurie Strode to a mindless and insignificant potential victim. The characterization of the girls in the original was what made it so much fun. Moreover, once we all see Myers as merely a guy with an extremely dysfunctional childhood who grows up to be a killer he ceases to serve as an agent of absolute evil. This makes him less frightening, and it also makes some of the Dr. Loomis dialog about him being the embodiment of evil seem hokey and out of place. This movie should have been about The Shape showing up and introducing evil into otherwise placid suburbia (not to mention punishing teens for their "sinful" ways). Instead we get a killer who could just as easily have been one of the Fireflys. Zombie makes great exploitation trash, but he has absolutely no touch with creating suspense.
In short, a MAJOR disappointment. This had the underpinnings to be a better than average Halloween sequel or prequel, but to bill this as a remake of the sacred original is simply blasphemous

Good points The mask was perfect White masked Michael was perfect The kid Michael was perfect The kills as a kid were great The music during intense scenes were great Loomis was great The step dad was great
Bad points Rob had no idea where to drop Carpenters classic score Michael looked like a retarded Kane (WWF) before he got the white mask. The break out scene was horrible and dragged on The 3 girls were assholes and Lynda and Annie were just two bitches you cant even feel sorry for... The ending was dreadful... I couldn't believe what I was watching when he was searching for her inthe walls and ceiling... The cursing only worked with the stepdad... other then that it was forced. Laurie and the kids hiding in the bathtub was dreadful and really brought the best scene of the movie to a halt. The killing of Laurie's parents was too much, I began to wonder why he's even killing people at that point. The older Michael kills were lame. The only good one was Bobs kill.
Overall I can only say it had its good points and bad points. They rushed scenes that should have been slower. The dragged scenes that should have been rushed. The classic music doesn't fit this movie. The ending sequence starting with the kids and Laurie in the bath tub till the end was a total let down.
Even though I separated the two while watching it, I couldn't help but realize afterwords how amazing it really make the original look. I rate this 2

Seems like everything I hate about the film's idea is exactly what's brought into the film. Doesn't exactly look promising, but I'm still not seeing it until it hits DVD.

I'm not sure I'm going to outright hate it. Remember, 95% of the crappiest movies of all time I thoroughly enjoy so a few negative reviews don't really bother me.

But you didn't like Zombie's other films. this is not a Halloween movie. It is House of 1,000 Corpses with a Michael Myers mask. If that is what you're after you'll love it
