I was tossing up whether to put this thread in the Horror in General or here,so tossed a coin and here it is. The flip side to our default movies thread,I guess the title speaks for itself.
I'll start with the remake of The Fog. From trailers it looks like everything I hate about modern horror. If it ain't broke why fix it?
Another remake the upcoming Suspiria. Why? WHY? One of the most endearing aspects of Suspiria is that it doesn't make a lot of sense. It's not meant to.Adds to it's nightmarish qualities.I don't want a slick, over explained modern version.
Titanic - Total overkill in it's coverage when released,it actually turned me off watching another DiCaprio film for over ten years, until the excellent Shutter Island.
Avatar - See Titanic reasoning.
Anything with Jerry O'Connell. - I love Stand by Me,but he always annoyed me,and he almost ruined Scream 2 ( I still fast forward his awful musical number). Then I watched Piranha and vowed never to watch a new film with him in it . Not that I was that happy to begin with, but his casting as Herman in the new Munsters TV shows has turned me off completely.

They're remaking Suspiria?! And you were totally correct in skipping Avatar.

They're remaking Suspiria?! yep The only thing more bankrupt than the European Union these days is creativity in Hollywood.

I've stopped seeing anything Mel Gibson ever since he turned out to be an awful human being although I am tempted to see Apocalypto.
I've never seen the Dawn of the Dead remake and don't plan to either.

The thing that kills me is all my friends have seen it and don't even know it's a remake.

The only way to deal with people like that is "by removing the head or destroy the brain"

The only way to deal with people like that is "by removing the head or destroy the brain" I'll have to go with removing the head because I don't think there was much of a brain to begin with.

I've heard good things and am interested in the subject matter so I'll probably see it when I get a chance. Any Scream fil Any "Scary Movie" film Titanic Most remakes You're a huge Molly Ringwald fan, but Scream is a chick flick? I wouldn't push the sequels on anyone but you really do owe it to yourself to see the original Scream. I'm not saying it's on par with the classics but it is one of the better slashers of the past 15-20 years. You must be judging it on some preconceived notion that is at least partially incorrect. I seem to remember you being pretty anti-blu-ray a few years ago and you seem to have changed your tune on that. Scary Movie is a pretty damn funny comedy as well. If it doesn't make you laugh you have no soul sir.

I didn't hate Avatar, but I think it's totally overrated and don't really plan on watching it again. The Fog remake was terrible. I like Titanic, but at the same time completely understand why others hate it.
I actually really liked The Dawn of the Dead remake and watch it every once in awhile. I have never really understood the hate for the Scream movies, I am not overly fond of the effect it had on some future horror movies, but they are actually pretty smart slashers. And the first one has a fantastic opening.
I find The Life of David Gale almost offensive, it's manipulative and though I am sure they think it's a film against the death penalty, it sure seems to go out of it's way to make people that oppose the death penalty out to be morally bankrupt fanatics (I am one of them, so it sickened me). So even though it has a great cast, never will be seen by me again.

I did see Scream, that's why I no interest in them. How could you compare the classic beauty that is Molly Ringwald to a bunch of fake boobed bimbos.....the shame. As far a blue ray goes, I only get them if they have some features that the DVD version does not, or if the movies calls for high definition, say a special effects based film. Those are the two stipulations that I make for blu ray. Besides I got my blu ray player for free 'Scary" Its a matter of opinion and taste I guess, I think the humor in those films is stupid not funny. Besides Ive had all I can stand of those type of films, after all the Airplane, Naked Gun films and the like, it got tiring after a while. Id rather stick with the first Airplane then any of those.
