What Non-Horror Movies Have You Been Watching?

My recent non-horror viewing has consisted of:



Suddenly -
Frank Sinatra plans to shoot the President with a sniper rifle from a window. OUCH!
Sterling Hayden's stiffly acted Sheriff and the most upstanding American family ever seen are out to stop him
This wildly melodramatic and outrageously theatrical movie would probably have drifted into obscurity if it was not for two linked events.
JFK was later assassinated.
And Sinatra stopped distribution of the film because of it.
Such is the way movie folklore is born.

It is very strange to hear Sinatra, when he is told other assassins have never escaped, going through the list of President killers (and why they are inferior to him) and not of course have any mention of Oswald and JFK as that was 9 years away.
If the film was made now it would of course be explicitly mentioned,
Sinatra chews the scenery, it's outrageously patriotic, it's all rather silly (after the Sheriff and the head Secret Service guy go missing and another Cop is shot in the streets...why would Sinatra ever think the Presidential visit would still happen!!?) but it's all very entertaining.
In fact how could a film where Ol' Blue Eyes slaps around an 8 year old boy and threatens to cut his throat not be entertaining!?


"Kickboxer 4" -
Very cheesy, with a villian stuck with a stupid latex face to try and make hin look Asian...but otherwise this was surprisingly good popcorn entertainment.

Packed with extremely violent fights it moves at a nice pace and also manages to cram in some welcome nudity (including a surprisingly exploitative threesome sex scene that stops the plot dead) and a brutal torture scene with a surprisingly nasty (especially given the victim), entrail exposing outcome.
A good, solid, brutal popcorn fight-fest that does what it needs to do without pretension.


"American Yakuza" -
Viggo Mortensen plays an undercover Cop who hitches up with the Yakuza and finds his loyalties torn as he becomes to close to his new crime 'family'.
Some good, solid action scenes, a very good cast (including Robert Forster), some impressive cinematography and an interesting screenplay that gives us engaging characters means this little B movie gem delivers all it should.
A great spot of theatrical high emotion during the finale is the icing on the cake.

I too enjoy Home Alone LDC, it's a very funny family movie. I love the part at the beginning where Kevin's cousins Fuller, and the girl with the glasses are staring at Joe Pesci who is there disguised as a cop and he's asking them questions and they just stare, ahaha. Great movie to watch around Christmas time, I dunno about every night though!

Sweet 16

A very interesting little Scottish film that CT recommended to me. Quite depressing but a pretty solid film overall

I just watched this film called Welcome To The Dollhouse. Good movie, but geeze I felt so sorry for the girl in the film. One of her class mates always says stuff like "At three o' clock after school Im gonna rape you." The kids are only like twelve too.

Both are great movies.

Yay Mad Max mate... just introduced my nine year old to the opening chase sequence.

Apart from that caught King Kong (the Jackson remake) and was actually surprised at how good it is. Yes, a tad long and self indulgent in parts, but overall a pretty cracking film. Now sorry I missed it on the big screen.

an australian film that made me quite sick.

still reeling from his last case, in which a man from hamburg willingly ate slices of his own cooked flesh, sydney-based internet crime investigator phillip jackson finds a website called 'FeederX.com' that caters to an erotic sub-culture of fat-loving men (feeders) who keep obese women (gainers) well-fed. troubled by the site's macabre publication of the gainers' unhealthy biodata, as well as by its suspiciously high level of security, phillip believes that he has uncovered something similar to snuff, ignoring orders from his boss he races to Toledo, Ohio, in the hope of finding the mysterious FeederX.

phillip quickly tracks down married, middle-class michael , but in the psychological cat-and-mouse that ensues, it becomes less and less clear exactly what crime it is that michael is supposed to be committing, whether his enormous gainer deirdre is in any way a victim, or whether phillip's own motives are entirely pure. until, the shock denouement that is, quite literally, difficult to swallow.

right from its opening sequence of michael purchasing bagfuls of burgers at a drive through and then masturbating as he shovels them into the hugely grotesque deirdre's mouth, this film continued to gross me out to the point where i nearly turned it off. however , i stuck it out. i doubt i would watch it again , but i do not regret using up a couple of hours of my time seeing it.

Wow. Never heard of it, and I try (badly obviously) to keep abreast of Aussie independents - when was this made?
