Yeah, I was kinda ticked about that as well, maybe next year we won't make them both sticky and announcements, just one or the other seeing as how there's so many of them. That was something that I just really hated the look of, and one of the reasons, beyond the lack of interest as we got going in the final stretch of this, as to why I prematurely shut it down.
However, as I said earlier, if you have any suggestions as to how we'll go about this in the upcoming years, just let me know here and we'll get it hammered out so we'll be able to get it going without any hiccups.

Just a little friendly reminder on this, to make sure we're all making a subconscious effort to maybe watch one or two of these so that we can get going with the project again later in the year, even though it's still several months away before we start up again but just to make it something that'll stick in the back of your head for awhile as we run through the year.

Good point, man. Thanks for the reminder. Will do. For what its worth, though, I think that we should probably spend a bit of time tweaking the genre choices that we've had to remove some of the ones that we know are going to be duds. For example, best bigfoot film should probably just go. Nobody wanted to do it last year, and even though I have seen a handful, I don't really think that's gonna change with a few of the more obscure genres.

Yeah, no problem man. Like I said, not urging you people to watch them if you have other choices out there, but maybe take one or two here and there so that we can participate again. Of course, Matt and CT need to come back, Jen needs to get healthier and we need more people to actually show up as the five of us with you and me as well aren't going to come to any kind of agreement on anything as it is. I know we're going to need tweaking on this, which I think is what the first round showed us since it was basically a trial run to see what's going to happen in the future as I said before, it's going to be a yearly event that happens to see what we think of the genre as we go onward. Again, sounding like a broken record on this, but anything you guys can offer in terms of voting regulations, restrictions, new genres, sticky's/announcements, etc, here's the time and place to offer them up. And I think it's time to effectively kill that Bigfoot argument once and for all. I picked the genres at random, I didn't know which was going to be first up for discussion and when I offered the different genres at the very start, no one canceled out specific ones from the choices given so I figured you guys would take up the spirit and maybe seek a few out to watch because we hadn't whittled the time down to a week before we put up a new one. Due to that assumption, I had it that you guys would go try to find a few you hadn't seen so that you could participate. Yes, it didn't go according to plan but it's done, it's over, move on. So, beyond that Bigfoot argument, anything else we need to work on for this round?

Yes, allow formal write in votes throughout the discussions. the list should be a jumping off point to get people thinking in the right genre terms. Hopefully, the list will be complete enough to include the movies that people want to vote for. If someone wants to vote for another film not on the list, though, just let them do it. It will get discussions going.

Well, I've been keeping the lists up-to-date including practically a whole host of stuff that I've found since I last did the lists, even though I know for a fact no one on here has even seen let alone heard of them. Hell, most of the ones I'd found haven't even been dubbed into English, have a known subtitled track or released on DVD in any shape or form so it's a little bit of a gray area here for me.
I mean, I'd like to think if you've got something not there that you want to include, feel free and do vote for it, but then there's a voice in my head nagging at me saying that, because I've got so many extra films to add on to what we've done before and that we're announcing these so far in advance, we've got plenty of time to debate exclusions, re-arrangments, new classifications and omissions beforehand so that, when we're ready to start asking them up again the debates can be about why we're placing such films on our list or excluding our personal favorites on someone else's list. To me, that could make for a lot easier go-round so that we're not cluttering up the threads debating why we left something off instead of discussing the films themselves. That was what got to me the first time we tried this.
And yet as I say that, all those comments you posed to me earlier about not being such a dictator and cutting off lively discussion is coming right back and smacking me in the face, so that's something we've got to work through which I'm perfectly willing to do since, like I mentioned on Monday, we're so far off in the future of starting these up again that it's not really a big deal to do our prep-work now and then just start up when it's time to do them again.

Okay, this is something that's been gnawing at me for a week or so, and aided by last night's viewing, figures to be the first update we do here for the upcoming year:
1. I propose we totally drop Killer Fish as a potential genre choice (even with some extra choices I've found in the time since, we're still under two-dozen films) and merge them into the Sea-Creature rankings so it'll kinda be like a Sea/Ocean/Water Horror-based set of choices.
2. I propose we start up a new genre where we rank Frankenstein-based horror films, where it'll be a ranking of the films where we see the creature raised and let loose.
So, how do you all feel about these proposed changes? Any thought to the previous post above this one that got no replies? I don't know what you feel if you don't tell me.

I'm with you on killer fish not having many entries, but what about just simply adding sharks to the killer fish films instead of folding it into another genre? There are so many shark films that it would definitely work.
I am totally cool with doing Frankenstein films. Sounds like a good idea.
I still vote against doing sasquatch films at all. There was not much interest then, there will not be much more now. That is a genre you should just fold into nature run amok.
I still think you should allow people to write in their votes on the threads. Not everyone posts as regularly as you do. I'd hate to see someone have time away from the board and miss the opportunity to have input on the list because they return at some point after voting has already started. It isn't just about being a dictator or not, man. Simplify the process. Make it as user friendly as possible to maximize the number of people who can participate.

I agree in part with both of you, Sharks, Killer fish and Sea creatures should all be in the same category. I think some categories in general should be a bit broader - so many films are hard to pigeon-hole into one sub-genre.

I'm with you on killer fish not having many entries, but what about just simply adding sharks to the killer fish films instead of folding it into another genre? There are so many shark films that it would definitely work. I left off sharks last time because, as mentioned in the opening post, it's about finding the "Jaws" of each genre, the best one in the genres that don't get any real mention or love so I'm not going to do it unless you want to rank those as well. That's the point of these, finding the best in the unloved genres and so we're leaving out the one we all know and won't have any fun discussing at all. Again, though, a round of approval in doing it will result in us doing so, but if we don't get anything out of it, I'll leave them off. I am totally cool with doing Frankenstein films. Sounds like a good idea. Fair enough. Then let them be done. I still vote against doing sasquatch films at all. There was not much interest then, there will not be much more now. That is a genre you should just fold into nature run amok. Disinterest in a particular genre doesn't mean we should disqualify the genre when it's apparent we have a ton of choices to go on. I can't be held responsible if you can't find/don't watch the films, they're there if you need them simple as that, and if you can't find them out there, there's nothing I can do about that. Okay, that sounds fair enough, though I'll still preface it with the saying that with all the choices I've gathered up this round, I doubt they'll be a need for them at all as I'll have just about all the different ones possible, yet just know that if you found one I missed that still belongs in that chosen genre which we've all cleared beforehand as belonging, then feel more than free to vote for it. I agree in part with both of you, Sharks, Killer fish and Sea creatures should all be in the same category. I think some categories in general should be a bit broader - so many films are hard to pigeon-hole into one sub-genre. No, not really. I've found these quite simple to do: the inclusion of the titular creature gives it into the genre. We have cross-overs (Mega Python vs. Gateroid, for instance, deals with both Snakes and Crocodile/Alligators, which we deal with in separate listings so it'll appear in both) but I've found that mere appearance of the creature in question in a creature-feature scenario gives it the right to be eligible for voting. Remember, we're still doing creature features here so those have to be the main part of the film's intent.

What do you think about having two seperate votes on each category with different criteria. I think it might be fun to lower the number of total choices to three rather than five, but instead have us pick a list of the three objectively best films and also the three campiest entries. That might generate more discussion about the "so bad its good" variety of films that we aren't necessarily picking otherwise

Sounds all right, but what are you getting at with that?
I get that you think we should do the two votes on a subject, but the rest is where you lose me in that, and if I think it's what you're getting at, it sounds like fun but I'm not 100% sure on what it all means. A little further clarification, man.

Yes, I think we should do one that is a top three best objectively good films and also a top three cheesy camp films.

Okay, that's kinda what I figured you were going for, but how do we determine the difference? Someone like me, I think the crap is the good stuff and the quality films shouldn't be bothered with, so what's the criteria for separating them?

That's part of the fun, man. If we disagree there will be debate as to which a particular film qualifes as. SOmetimes its obvious. Jaws is a serious film and Attack of the Killer Tomatoes is camp, but there will be areas where we disagree, and whole genres where most of the films could be considered camp. I think it should spark some serious debates as to which is which
